Moncton - Magnetic Hill
This post is a week overdue and now I can't remember what I was going to write about :( We took a trip up to Moncton last weekend, just for the day. We started off how we usually do. We went to Dollarama for snacks and drinks :) We grabbed some hats and sunscreen(since Dartmouth made it feel like it was gonna be a cold day, we didn't bring any)
Don't the girls look beautiful with their new hats and purses. :) Then we went on our old pal Google to see what there was to do in the area. There are actually a ton of things to do in Moncton! Just in one area, there is Magic Mountain Splash zone, which is a really fun looking waterpark, Moncton Zoo, and Magnetic Hill. Unfortunately the waterpark was closed(we will definitely be coming back for that), and we didn't really have enough time to see the whole zoo(we decided not to go there this time either), so we went with Magnetic hill.
Magnetic Hill is one of the coolest illusions you will ever see! We paid $6 to enter the "park". You drive up to the top of a little hill, and in front of you is a long gradual downward hill. At the bottom of the hill is a white post. The guy at the top tells you to drive down to the white post, put the car in neutral, and let go of the brake. We must have tried about 5 times to figure out what was happening!! When you let go of the brake, your car starts rolling backwards slowly UP the hill, then it starts picking up speed. It makes absolutely no sense. I mean we know how it works, but it is crazy even when you know because your eyes play tricks on you. We took a video so you could see, but everyone needs to try for themselves if you ever get the chance.
The whole road plays along with the illusion too. The white marker that you drive "down" to, is actually higher than where you start off in the first place. So it looks like its downhill, but its actually up hill?!?!?!?! The landscape on the side of the road shows it, but you can't really see it. The trees are all growing in a way that looks straight, but they are actually slanted?!?!?! It's all a huge mind trip. It's crazy! All I can say is, you've gotta see it for yourself! Even if you know how it works, you can't see it.
The girls are beautiful and yes the illusion at Magnetic Hill is quite an experience. I went there as a child and went back 55years later. Loved it both times. An experience you will remember
