Ridiculously Easy Playdough

Ok, I will admit it. Sometimes I get super lazy by the time I get home from work. So when the girls get an idea in their heads like, "let's make playdough" at 7pm, I cringe...Haha. The thing is though, either Bill or I always give in to them. They are just so darn cute! Especially when you say no, and they give you those puppy dog eyes.

Well here goes! At work we came up with this really easy recipe. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but this one came out great and took literally 5 minutes to make. That's my kind of after work activity. The only ingredient we don't normally have on hand is cream of tartar. It's pretty inexpensive though. The best part about this recipe is that besides the hot water, the girls do practically everything themselves.

1.5 cups plain white flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tbsp cream of tartar
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 cup boiling water(mix with food colouring before adding)
3-6 drops food colouring(until you reach the colour you want)

Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl.

Add food colouring to the boiling water, then stir it into the dry ingredients.
Mix continuously until the flour is fully mixed in.

If you are mixing by hand, stir until just past being sticky. Put it on a floured surface and knead for 3-5 minutes. If it is staying kinda sticky, add a little bit of flour and knead some more. Continue adding a little flour at a time until it feels like playdough.

(I cheat and I use my Kitchen Aid mixer so that the girls don't have to wait for it to cool down before they play with it. And using the dough hook means I don't have to knead it forever. Also, the girls feel really grown up when I let them control the mixer)

*You are finished when it looks like playdough :p
