How Important Is Graduation to me?
I wish I had started writing this blog a long time ago. There are so many things that have happened that I haven't written about. So I think what I will do is go back through my pics and find as many things as I can that are important to me, and add them on here. I would hate to lose out on sharing so many memories.
The first pics I stumbled upon were Seth and Amy's grad photos :) You all have no idea how absolutely excited and proud Bill and I are that both of them have graduated! These were 2 of the most exciting days ever!!
For anyone who doesn't already know, I had Seth when I was 17, right after I finished Grade 10. For me, graduation took a lot of work, and I definitely didn't make it easy on myself. I took the next year off school, and just before I decided to go back, I found out I was pregnant with Amy! I was in a young moms group at the time. We met every week and did activities together.
There was a woman who started coming to the meetings hoping to find some ideas about how to help a few of us graduate. None of us were comfortable going to school while pregnant, nursing, or needing to constantly be close to our little ones. We came up with an idea about a class just for young moms. It was an amazing idea! We did regular classes in a building the school rented(the old A&W building in Powell River, BC....lol), and electives in the high school across the street.
I started class when Amy was about 8 months old and Seth was almost 2. Thank goodness for the BEST DAYCARE EVER!! It was attached to the high school and if it wasn't for a really good friend working there, I don't think I ever could've left them. My first year went great! I had to work extremely hard though. I don't ever wish it on anyone. Imagine trying to study and do homework with a baby and a toddler needing you 24 hours a day! Somehow I passed Grade 11 with really good marks.
The next year, much harder! Seth was now too old to be in the daycare, so he had to go to a preschool-daycare further away and in September I found out I was pregnant with Jayden, which meant that if I were to graduate that year, I would have to finish my classes early, or risk having no time to finish that year. :( Jayden was born in February....and I graduated in May!! Yay! I was so proud of myself. There weren't a lot of people I knew who had graduated, so for me, this was huge. My graduating class consisted of 8 other young moms. All super awesome people who worked really hard to accomplish the same goal as me. And all with their own problems to overcome.
In the end, I graduated the year before Seth started Kindergarten! So with a lot of hard work, I graduated with 3 kids under 5. I don't recommend that to anyone. High School is hard enough without extra work.

Seth's Grad |
And that brings me to the reason for this post. Our 2 oldest have now graduated! Seth in 2016 and Amy in 2018. They know my story. They know my struggles. They made their own paths.(and as of right now, I have no grand-kids...Haha) This is one of those proud parent posts! They have their moments, and they haven't always been perfect, but they are pretty amazing kids! And they are mine :)
Now, just 4 more to go....Haha :(
Very nice! I didn’t realize that you did that, it would of been very hard, high school and 3 children! You forgot to mention that you were married! We are so very proud of you.
ReplyDeleteI was married, but that unfortunately didn't help. While the kids and I were at school/daycare, he would leave for work and be gone until 1am or later. Which is why it was so much harder to get everything done. :( Being married at 17 was honestly harder than being single sometimes.
